Hi, I’m Catherine, a professional illustrator and designer with 10+ years of experience in freelancing, book illustration, publishing, and graphic design. I’ve worked with clients like Previous Pluto Games, The Haverford School and Future House Publishing and have industry experience in children’s books, concept art, and print design. I studied (and tutored) at Moore College of Art and Design and have a deep passion for helping others develop their artistic skills.
My 'philosophy', if I had to pick one, is that I believe anyone can improve their artistic skills with the right guidance! As long as you 1. like drawing and 2. are ready to put in the work to improve, I'm the right tutor for you.
My areas in expertise are-
- Digital art on Procreate
- Book Design / formatting / Publishing
- Cartoons/Stylized art
- Sequential & Comic art
- Illustration concepts & practices
Lessons are highly tailored to you and what your goal is. However, I do make sure everyone receives the 3 Big Important things-
1. Practice - I will assign you useful exercises and assignments learned from years of art school; These will be targeted to help you improve your weaknesses as well as refine your strengths.
2. Critique - the bane and yet the essential part of every artist's journey. I'll critique your work in a way that's constructive and helpful, and teach you to be able to do the same for yourself. Let's overcome rejection sensitivity together!
3. Knowledge - A lifetime of procured art resources sits in a Google Doc folder on my computer, and I'm still discovering new programs, websites and tutorials every day. While you work on improving, I'll be collecting and sending you digital resources to use long after our tutoring is through.
While I have industry experience, my lessons are best suited for students and emerging artists rather than professionals already ahead in the field. A weekly or bi-weekly meeting is recommended for maximum improvement!
