My name is Rachel and I am a current Master's student at Drexel University majoring in Physics. Before starting my masters, I completed my Bachelor's degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where I majored in Astronomy and Astrophysics and got a minor in Applied Mathematics. Currently, I am a teaching assistant for an introductory physics I course for engineering majors. Each week of the term, I work through several problems based on that week's topic with my students and give them a problem to work on in teams. The main problems I work through with the class, letting them provide ideas on how to approach the problem and ask questions about the problem solving method. The group problem allows for students to collaborate on a problem that encompasses everything they have learned in class. I love being able to see my students tackle the problems in this collaborative setting.

Before becoming a teaching assistant, I was a Math/Science Tutor at a local tutoring center where I primarily worked with high school students in their math and science courses as well as on exam prep. During that time, I would focus on reinforcing topics that were learned in class by working through practice problems with the student on the topic they needed the most help on. Each session was a mixture of reviewing problems done in class, homework problems and similar problems pulled from a textbook on that topic. While working one on one with these students, I was able to review the information they needed the most and spend as much time as needed on it. During this time, I primarily taught Algebra I and II and Geometry but also had a few students in precalculus and Calculus on both the regular and AP level. Physics is my strongest of the three sciences and I was able to help my students see the real life examples of physics to provide a visual picture for solving the problems. My goal as a tutor is to ensure understanding of problems from start to finish. Contact me to get started.
