I am a lifelong published writer. In high school I was an outstanding English student — writing essays and poetry — and was also a spelling champion, placing second in the state in the competition sponsored by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) by the University of Texas at Austin. After a year of study at Antioch College, I completed a BFA degree in art at the University of North Texas, before moving to New York, where I continued writing as a part of nonprofit fundraising. Projects included proposals, business letters, biographies on prominent individuals, and minute-by-minute scripts for events.
For the last 20 years, I have written monthly articles for The Strad, a 100-year-old music magazine based in London, and since 2022, have written frequent articles for WRTI, the public radio station in Philadelphia. I also currently write for a leading special events firm in New York (C. Madden Productions), creating letters, biographies, and speeches. And for Ria Health in San Francisco, I work with a small marketing team on weekly emails, blog articles, and web text. Among many hobbies, I continue to write essays and poetry.
Though I have helped people individually learn to write better, I am new to formal tutoring, and am eager to work with students of all ages. My background includes decades of practical experience in writing of all kinds. I teach by example, with patience and encouragement, knowing that people learn in different ways. I like helping students to write more clearly, to organize their thoughts, and to use correct English grammar and sentence structure. My commitment is to help students write better than they imagined.
