Hi! My name is Yerin. I graduated from Swarthmore College with a Bachelors in Philosophy and am currently working towards a Masters at the University of Pennsylvania. From a young age, I was blessed to have parents who were committed to preserving my Korean identity and a school that supported their vision, resulting in my native level of fluency in both English and Korean. Since high school, I've won many national awards and scholarships for my Korean writing abilities. I also taught at a Korean school for several years, mainly serving non-Korean students. In my classes, I focused on the fundamentals while also introducing my students to little-known aspects of Korean culture to increase cultural awareness and maintain high motivation.
After college, I took a gap year in Korea, where I held 1-on-1 private tutoring lessons in English for adult learners. In these lessons, I focused on building my students' confidence in their speaking skills, as many of them had learned English all their lives but were too scared to speak. I also personalized my lessons for each student based on their goals, from teaching search engine terminology to a student who was interested in accessing online resources, to teaching casual conversational English to a student who wanted to travel.
I am currently only teaching Korean (remotely, unless extenuating circumstances). My goal for students is to maximize their learning, for whatever goals they might have, and to build confidence. As a graduate student, I am pretty much available 24/7 and welcome any questions, suggestions, or resources students and guardians are willing to provide. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or to schedule our first lesson. Looking forward to hearing from you!
