In terms of education, I recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in May of 2023 with a major in Classical Studies along with minors in both Chemistry and Political Science.

With my tutees, I like to employ a methodology based on two distinct elements: content review and practical application. When encountering a topic for the first time, I have found that my tutees have the most success by spending time to understand the “big picture” concepts before attempting to solve problems. After the tutees seem to have grasped the big ideas, I test them by asking them to explain the concepts to me as if I had no background in the subject. From my own personal experience, the ability to distill and explain complex subjects is instrumental in fundamentally learning a topic for the long-term. As for practical application, I have found that prior semester’s exams, if they are provided, and practice questions are the most useful tool in preparing for upcoming assessments. I will ask the student to provide me with a copy of any practice questions in advance so that I will be able to work through them and review the step-by-step process of arriving at the answer. The student and I will spend the session prior to the exam working out how the “big picture” ideas appear in the practice questions and how the student should approach different types of questions.

I have been tutoring intermittently since my junior year of high school, and I joined the tutoring program at Penn through its Weingarten Center in my third year of college. While at Penn, I tutored second-semester General Chemistry, Biochemistry, second-semester Organic Chemistry, and introductory statistics. I also independently tutored a student at another university in first-semester Organic Chemistry. I am also capable of teaching both Latin and Ancient Greek because of my Classics background. My most recent tutoring experiences have been predominantly in group settings with 2-3 students, but I have also tutored one-on-one.
