My name is Zach M. I am a faculty member of Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA, where I teach a course on improvisation, musicianship, and I'm the artist lecturer for jazz drum set.
I have a BM in Jazz Performance from Moravian University, and MM in Jazz Studies from Temple University.
I have a diverse background as a professional musician having worked as a performer in all genres of music and various situations including tour experience, musical theater, and session player for recording projects. I have worked with music publishers such as Hudson Music and Modern Drummer Magazine as a transcriber and editor of various educational resources. I have 10+ years of teaching experience in classroom, one-on-one lessons (piano, drum set, guitar, voice, pitched percussion, bass), group lessons/masterclasses, and have developed a very accommodating style of teaching to help students with subjects in music that seem intimidating. I have taught a wide range of ages (< 5 - 60+), experience levels and learning styles.
I believe in nurturing a student's intrinsic motivations for learning and keep praise reserved for efforts and engagement in the process of learning. I can help with test prep for music theory, ear training, or other subjects and I can also help you gain comfort with software such as Finale and LogicPro.
