Hello! My name is Cole and I am a PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania in Physics and Astrophysics. I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, where I double majored in Physics and Astrophysics and graduated with honors and cum laude (top 25% of astrophysics students of the last five years). I then earned my Master's in Physics at the University of Cambridge, graduating with distinction and in the top third of my class.

I have years of tutoring experience, both in solo and group settings. I have tutored both high school and college students in topics ranging from pre-algebra to multivariable calculus, from particles to black holes! Specifically, I have previously worked as a private tutor for high school students in algebra and pre-calculus. At UChicago, I was a tutor for introductory physics college courses, teaching mechanics, electromagnetism, and waves and optics from basic to honors levels. Over the course of a year, I worked with around fifty-first- and second-year physics students. Next, I worked as a TA for two different advanced astrophysics classes: holding office hours and working directly with thirty students for homework help and exam preparation.

My tutoring style is fundamentally based on my belief that no one is intrinsically bad at math or any other subject. Typically, when taught in a classroom, students only receive one teaching style, that of the professor. It can be sheer dumb luck if that is the style that "clicks" for them. Therefore, my teaching style focuses on first identifying student confusion, experimenting with multiple methods of understanding until we find one that works for the student, then extrapolating this approach to new problems that they can then do on their own.
To summarize, my goals are to get the student to understand the material by working with them, rather than throwing explanations at them with little regard for how they think. Please get in touch if you are interested or have any questions, I generally respond quite quickly!

ACT Math

ACT Math

As a PhD Physics student, I use math ranging from algebra to multi-variable calculus daily. I have previously tutored high school and college students on their math skills both in solo and group settings. I regularly help high school students prepare for their standardized tests, including both the SAT and the ACT.
Astronomy

Astronomy

I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Pennsylvania, I also hold an MS with distinction from the University of Cambridge in Physics and a BS with honors from the University of Chicago in both Physics and Astrophysics. At UPenn, I am currently a Physics TA and I have worked on two other Astrophysics classes as a TA at UChicago. I also was also employed by UChicago as a tutor for the physics department for a year, where I tutored over fifty students. I have tutored students in subjects ranging from basic Newtonian mechanics to general relativity, so I am sure I can help with whatever high school or college-level Physics or Astrophysics topic you need!
Calculus

Calculus

As a Ph.D. Physics student, I use math ranging from algebra to multi-variable calculus daily. I have previously tutored high school and college students on their math skills both in solo and group settings. I should be able to assist you with math ranging from algebra to multivariable calculus and will work with you to find the method of approaching the math that clicks for you, rather than just drowning you in formulas.
GRE

GRE

I took the GRE in order to enter graduate school, where I scored 166 and 168 (out of 170 ) on the verbal and math sections and a perfect 6.0 on the analytical writing section. I have previous experience in tutoring college-age students in physics and mathematics, both privately and as a tutored employed by the University of Chicago.

Superb

Cole worked with my son for Physics material. He provided great explanation of problems, modeling, explained the steps of problems and how to approach them. He’s excellent in making the material understandable and helped to provide tactics.

Excellent Tutor!

My HS sophomore son took a physics undergraduate course which was an advanced level course for him. He considerably struggled in the beginning and even thought of dropping the course, but then we found Cole through Wyzant. Sessions with Cole helped my son understand complex topics and gain confidence in the subject. Cole was always able to fit us into the calendar. I would HIGHLY recommend Cole as a Physics tutor!
