I'm Shreya! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and a double minor in Chemistry and Philosophy. Currently, I am a Biotechnology master’s student at the University of Pennsylvania. I started my first tutoring job when I was 14 teaching algebra to high school students. Since then, I have gained a fair number of independent tutoring hours. My first group tutoring setting was in high school as I tutored students in the alternative disciplinary department in geometry. In college, I was nominated by my professors to tutor statistics, chemistry (including general, analytical, and organic), and biology (including molecular, organismal, ecology, and genetics), based on my academic performance in the classes. I also have extensive experience with English tutoring as I worked at the Teaching and Learning Center in college to help students write and edit their essays. I have won three writing awards over my academic career and have background in poetry, non-fiction, and realistic fiction writing, as well as grammatical rules.
My typical approach is to ask students to formulate specific content questions beforehand if possible. I can then review this material to prepare for the session to run effectively time-wise. If the student is lost overall then I will ask them to provide me with their textbook information or notes and I will use them to reteach any concepts that are unclear. For practice, I will generate my own problems/questions as well as can help work through student assignments. All sessions will be catered towards the students needs and asking questions is encouraged! I never want my students to feel as though they cannot speak up if they are having difficulty understanding, so a comfortable, supportive teaching environment is what I strive to provide. Any additional resources/suggestions student/parent’s can provide will be welcomed and I will always be easily reached. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
