Hello, I am Ellie! I began tutoring almost 40 years ago. I met one-on-one with elementary school-aged children to help them complete homework assignments in English, vocabulary/spelling, reading, math, or science. As a volunteer, I have taught K-8 school-aged children group lessons on the Bible in church or home bible clubs. Later, I developed a passion for working with adults who were pursuing college or seeking employment. I always enjoyed writing, and they came to me for help with content writing on their college admissions applications, essays, resumes, and other correspondence. Since 2020, I've been working online as a College Essay Tutor, where I hold synchronous Live sessions with adult students, or asynchronously review their uploaded essays and provide feedback.
My teaching approach is simple. I've recognized, most students are challenged by understanding the assignment or subject. It's why this is the first approach I employ--clarifying what they are being asked to do. I'll use the board to explain concepts or show techniques/examples/visuals to help them identify and overcome challenges. I provide resources students can use at home that further drives home a concept. I observe students' practice on the board to make sure they have grasped the lesson. Students are encouraged to ask any questions.
My credentials evolved through my work as an administrative assistant for over 35 years in various sectors. It has afforded me excellent writing, computer, time management, problem-solving, and training skills. I am computer savvy, knowledgeable, well-rounded, and comfortable working remotely.
I graduated from Colorado Christian University, with a B.A. in Biblical Studies, with a minor in communication. Not only did I graduate college, but I also worked in academia for 9 years.
