Originally from a small beach town in Los Angeles, I moved to Philly 4 years ago where I have been teaching in the school district at the high school level. Since being employed with the district, I have taught English as a core subject all four years. Additionally, I have taught drama, film, and creative writing as electives. However, my passion lives in teaching and analyzing fiction, especially through a historical lens. In my free time, I enjoy running, rock climbing (also known as bouldering), and playing music with the two bands I am in (I play guitar and bass).
First and foremost, I treat all of my students with the respect they deserve, which means I create a safe environment for any student regardless of gender, gender-identify, sexual orientation, race, or religious beliefs. Moreover, being part of a younger generation of teachers, I am aware of the mental health crisis our students are experiencing and always teach/tutor with compassion and from a place free from judgement. Many of my students find it easier to learn from me because I take the time to listen and adapt to each of my students based on their individual backgrounds and needs.
Being a former student athlete in high school and needing a tutor myself growing up (for algebra… I’m NOT a math person!), I understand that it can be hard for young people to manage time in a way that allows them to simultaneously achieve both academic and athletic success. Overall, I have a passion for helping young minds grow and I pride myself with the professional, yet strong relationships I build with my students to help them realize their true potential. I hope to be given a chance to be one of the support beams in your, or your student’s, academic well-being!
