Howdy, my name is Tucker. I am very passionate about a variety of subjects, including mythology, D&D, and knitting; my academic interests are in chemistry and neuroscience, and a desire to understand the chemical basis of learning and experience.

Early in my undergraduate education, I was a biology major, but when my organic chem professor said that I discuss chemistry like a chemist, not a biologist. The led to me developing my own personalized curriculum of biochemistry, neuroscience and psychology courses - and Drexel's first and only graduate with a B.S. in Neurochemistry.

At the Drexel College of Medicine, I researched neurochemical changes of the brain associated with Parkinson's Disease, graduating with a Master's degree in 2019.

Since 2019 I have taught general, organic and analytical chemistry courses as a Teaching Assistant, and then as an Adjunct Professor. I have been responsible for teaching ~150 students/term across multiple recitations, lab sections and tutoring. I am very dedicated to the success of my students.

Neurodivergence and Chronic Illness

As someone who is, and lives with people who are, neurodivergent or chronically ill, I understand that traditional academic environments often overlook how much energy levels, sensory needs, and executive function can vary from day to day.

A significant portion of my tutoring has been dedicated to working with students managing chronic illnesses, and neurodivergent students.

I intentionally keep a smaller roster of students so I can understand how you learn and process information, building an approach that works for you:

- Flexible formats: Steady 1-hour weekly check-ins, adaptable scheduling around flare-ups, or intensive multi-hour sessions to capitalize on hyperfocus.
- Low-stress environment: A familiar, patient space where you don't have to apologize for an off day.
- Continuity: Many students work with me across consecutive semesters for steady, reliable support.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have taken many courses in math, including Algebra, Pre-calculus, Calculus, Multivariate Calculus and Linear Algebra. In my graduate studies and research I regularly use MatLab and Maple for a variety of purposes, including data analysis, signal processing, and quantum mechanics computations. As a teacher for general chemistry and in my research, algebra principles are consistently applied. As noted in my bio, for about 5-years I taught math to two homeschoolers (from age 8-13), covering basic math principles through Pre-algebra. Upon returning to school, they have consistently excelled in their math classes, and I have continued to tutor them where necessary.

MATLAB

MATLAB

As an Analytical chemist, the cornerstone of my doctoral research involves complex data analysis with large data sets. I have learned to code in MATLAB for the purpose of handling these complex analyses.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I have utilized Excel for university classes, as well as in my research from BS, MS and my current PhD work.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

As an undergraduate, I was consistently at the top of my classes in organic chemistry. I then completed the graduate level courses with all A's as well. I am experienced in interpreting spectroscopy data, and a very good understanding of the principles underlying mechanisms.

Excellent organic chemistry instructor!

Tucker was available at very short notice for my daughter who had an organic chemistry exam to review for. Extremely smart and knowledgeable on the subject matter as per his resume , but also a very kind and patient instructor who did not mind going over difficult concepts in order to aid an anxious student. Would recommend him to anybody needing assistance with all things organic chem! He also encouraged my daughter to reach out to him if there was a need for more support and genuinely encouraged her to follow up after the exam. Tucker is a star!

Chemistry Lover (which I am not)

Tucker is very patient and is helping me with a mandatory Chem 30 class for college. I highly recommend him. So far we have worked on Electronic configurations, sig figs and a ton of other things which I had never seen before.

Great Orgo Teacher!

I had a great session reviewing some Gen Chem principles and getting situated with the Orgo basics! Will definitely be setting up more sessions with Tucker as the semester progresses.
