Hello, I'm Leonard! I'm currently a resident in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery after obtaining my MD from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 2023. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with my BS in Biology in 2018. I have been successful in both the medical school and residency application processes, and would be eager to help with application prep, personal statements, or anything else you may need. I have also excelled in several science courses, on the MCAT, and on USMLE Step 1 and 2 CK. Collectively, I have over 6 years of tutoring experience, and I'm proud to have helped numerous students towards success. I spent 3 years working in my university’s academic resource center where I mastered tactics for teaching people with differing learning styles. My approach to teaching begins by evaluating student goals and what exactly they are struggling with. I always enjoy when that goal is to learn information for an applicable use, and not just to do well on an exam or receive a certain grade. Tutoring is a partnership, so I want to be on the same page as the student in terms of expectations. Once I understand the goals at hand, I try to identify what they are struggling with about their course or exam. Many students have preferred different teaching strategies and I have grown to be efficient with many of them. I have had success with numerous students in the past and I look forward to the opportunity to embark on that journey with you. Feel free to contact me and I will do all I can to help you be successful!

Genetics

During my studies at the University of Pittsburgh, I received an A+ in my genetics course. Additionally, I tutored university students in genetics at our academic resource center, and acted as an undergraduate teaching assistant for our genetics course taught by my previous instructor.
MCAT

MCAT

I personally prepared for this exam at scored in the 95th percentile among my peers. I have tutored for the MCAT in the past and have helped students become better prepared for the exam. My teaching style is interactive in that I do not plan to lecture students, but rather have discussions to help bring their knowledge to where it needs to be. I would be honored to aid in your MCAT journey.
USMLE

USMLE

As a current 4th year medical student, I personally prepared for both the USMLE Step 1 and 2 CK exams and scored in the top quartile of all test takers on each. My teaching style is interactive in that I do not plan to lecture students, but rather have discussions to help bring their knowledge to where it needs to be. My strategies for USMLE preparation include a combination of Uworld, First Aid, other outside supplemental resources, and a personalized dedicated study period schedule. I would be honored to aid in your USMLE journey.

Experienced tutor with lots of knowledge

Leonard is a great tutor and his experience really comes through when explaining material. There are concepts I have struggled with since I first saw them and now struggle with again as I prepare for the MCAT. However, Leonard was able to explain these concepts to me in a new way so that I can finally understand AND retain them. He is patient and really works with you to figure things out but will also find routes to make things easier as well.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

We reviewed the cardiac cycle and how you can distinguish various murmurs. Our session cleared up so much confusion and jumbled info in my brain. Leonard was able to adjust his descriptions throughout our session until he found a way to help me make it click.

Informative, Kind, Understanding, and Helpful Tutor

Leonard went through photosynthesis, cellular respiration, Gibbs energy, free energy, spontaneous reactions, and free energy, and explained the electron transport chain, the inter membrane, the ATP Synthase and more. He brought up helpful diagrams and drew vivid images to help better my understanding. He also did recall during the lesson, to make sure I was retaining the information he was providing. Overall, he is very kind, helping, and a very informative tutor who will help better your understanding.

Flexible and Knowledgeable

Helps you focus in on buzzwords and clinical presentations for EACH answer choice. Points out where helpful charts are in First Aid and will pull up diagrams to teach you and reinforce your understanding if you’re not a confident test-taker like me. My confidence has truly improved with Leonard as my tutor. find you representative questions and encourages you when you feel unsure. Very motivating!

knowledgeable and patient tutor

I would highly recommend Leonard as your tutor. For our session Leonard prepared some notes on fetal heart tracings (as I mentioned that was something I needed help with), and we went over some practise questions together. He also provided some resources he felt helped him for his shelf exams/step 2. I feel like I truly understand the topics we discussed, and he was very patient.

Helpful and Flexible

Leonard is a very caring and knowledgeable tutor. He takes his time to reassure you of your knowledge and break down complex topics with easy to remember memory hooks. I felt much stronger in class the next day after my session with Leonard and will continue to learn from him. He is great in preparing you for NBME-style exams and USMLE Step exams with his extensive medical knowledge!
