About Lilla

Bio

I am a retired college professor. I have taught mathematics classes ranging from Arithmetic to Calculus, as well as Statistics, Probability, Computer math and Finite mathematics. I worked 20+ years in a large, urban community college, in Philadelphia which has a truly diverse student body. I enjoy teaching students of any level, age or background if they are motivated, interested in learning. I am a retired college professor. I have taught mathematics classes ranging from Arithmetic to Calculus, as well as Statistics, Probability, Computer math and Finite mathematics. I worked 20+ years in a large, urban community college, in Philadelphia which has a truly diverse student body. I enjoy teaching students of any level, age or background if they are motivated, interested in learning. I believe that everybody can succeed in mathematics if he is willing to work hard and receives some guidance and inspiration.
In addition to teaching, I have privately tutored high school students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus I, II and Statistics for many years. I also tutored physics and computer programming.
I was also a Mathematics Specialist in the learning laboratory of the same college for 18 years, where I helped students individually or in small study groups of 3-15 students to succeed in their classes. In a tutoring session, first I would like to understand your learning style, see what you are able to do and at what point you need some guidance. Then we would set a goal for the study session together, identifying what we would like to accomplish in that particular session. During tutoring I ask a lot of questions to make sure you understand each step we making so you would be able to solve problems later on your own. Instead of showing how to solve a problem I would assist you in a way that you will be able to do most of the work. This type of tutoring works best in a live session, but I was able to accomplish it during distance tutoring as well. I would prefer to work with you in person, but it is absolutely possible to accomplish our goal online.

I am a native Hungarian speaker, living in the US for 23 years. During these years I have tutored Hungarian, worked with groups, mostly online. I enjoy helping students from all over the world. I have created an extensive collection of lessons, exercises and grammar tables. I taught classes of church groups to prepare them for a trip to a partner church in Transylvania. I also volunteered in a Hungarian school in New Jersey for several years. I really like to work with students individually - I cherish their desire to learn my native language. As a grandmother of 3 American - Hungarian boys, I work hard every day when I am around them, to maintain their basic conversation skills in Hungarian.

Lilla was incredible.. simply superb in explaining various math topics, in a way that is easy to follow and understand. Very accommodating in scheduling as well. I would highly suggest to anyone looking to grasp topics of math for homework assignments, quizzes and in preparation for a test.

I love that Lilla takes her time with my daughter. She identified where my daughter was struggling and honed in on that part of the math problems. She explains and then asks her to do the work. She asks questions and tries to help guide the student to the answer vs just giving them the answer. My daughter is feeling more confident going into her ACT test next week.
