Hi! I’m Shahriar M., a mathematics educator with over a decade of teaching and tutoring experience at the middle school, high school, and university levels. I earned my Ph.D. in Mathematics from Brandeis University and have extensive experience helping students build stronger math skills, improve their grades, and prepare for exams and standardized tests.

I currently teach mathematics at a boarding school in Pennsylvania, working directly with middle and high school students in courses ranging from Algebra and Algebra 2 to Honors Calculus and advanced mathematics. This gives me firsthand experience with the challenges students face in today’s classrooms, whether they are struggling with foundational algebra, aiming for an A in an advanced course, or preparing for SAT or ACT Math.

Before moving into secondary education, I taught university mathematics at Brandeis University, Michigan State University, and the University of Cincinnati. My courses have included Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, and other undergraduate mathematics courses. I have extensive experience working with students both in the classroom and one-on-one.

My teaching style is patient, flexible, and tailored to each student. I focus on helping students understand why a method works rather than simply memorizing formulas. At the same time, I emphasize effective problem-solving strategies, accuracy, and confidence. I adapt my approach to each student's goals, whether that means strengthening foundational skills, improving a course grade, preparing for an exam, or mastering challenging advanced material.

I enjoy working with students at all levels, from middle and high school mathematics through college-level courses. I tutor Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, SAT Math, and ACT Math. I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Brandeis University and over 10 years of experience teaching mathematics at the high-school and college level. I currently teach high-school math at a boarding school in Pennsylvania, where I teach Precalculus, Calculus, and advanced math courses daily. I have extensive experience with the full Precalculus curriculum: functions (linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic), trigonometry, unit circle, trigonometric identities and equations, complex numbers, vectors, sequences and series, and an introduction to limits. My approach is to identify gaps in algebra and trig that often hold students back, build strong conceptual understanding, and then develop efficient problem-solving strategies. I focus not only on homework and test prep, but also on building confidence, consistency, and study habits that prepare students for AP Calculus. I have worked with many juniors who were strong students but needed targeted support to go from a B to an A and to build a solid foundation for Calculus next year. I offer structured lessons with goals between sessions and progress tracking.
