Greetings! My name is John. I am a graduate of Slippery Rock University with bachelor’s degrees in Secondary Social Studies and Elementary Education. I've been a World History teacher for over 25 years. During my professional career I have also become a Nationally Board-Certified Teacher in Secondary Social Studies. I have always been drawn to history, when explaining historical events, I can see the events play out like a movie in my head. When explaining history to students I try to make the content as if I am describing a show or movie that I have currently watched.

In my life I have only wanted to do one thing, and that was to teach history. I have been blessed in my life that I am able to do this, and I wish to continue doing for many more years. I have enjoyed teaching many aspects of this discipline from Basic Modern World History to AP World History. Yep, I've taught from cavemen to spacemen. I have also taught Civics, Current Events, European History, US History and AP Comparative Government. I am also knowledgeable with AP US History.

When I help a student, I wish to diagnose the problem they are having and make them self sufficient. I have taught AP classes since 2016 and am aware of the requirements of the College Board for multiple choice, DBQ, SAQ, and LEQ questions. I am also able to summarize and explain required content for AP World, AP US History, AP Government, and AP Comparative Government. American History

American History

Over the course of my high school career, I have taught American History along with other history topics like world history. I am also a AP World History teacher so I am very familiar with the formatting of multiple choice questions along with the SAQ, DBQ, and LEQ. American history is interwoven in many of the subjects I have taught like Current Events and AP Comparative Government. So, even when I am not formally teaching American History, I am inferring it to my students.

Before the transition to emphasize modern history for both Basic World History and AP Modern World History, teaching the classical civilizations was always part of the curriculum for over 25 years. After the change, I wrote and have taught an Ancient and Classical Civilizations course. I have taught Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Classical China, and the birth and base concepts of world religions from this era.

I have taught AP Comparative Government since 2016 and have enjoyed this elective course greatly. Over the course of my 25 years of teaching, I have taught Civics are various times. Within my Current Events course, the politics and processes of American government have been a consistent within the course.

As a mother in the room during my daughter's AP History tutoring session with John, I really appreciated the way he continuously checked in with my daughter to make sure John M. was addressing my daughter's specific tutoring needs.
