I have taught memoir at Widener University, Rosemont College, and Cheltenham Adult School. After being mentored by Mailer and Margaret Atwood, I published six books. Prior to pursuing writing I was an art teacher and won a scholarship in art to Penn State. I have taught art at Springfield High School. I emphasize that my students study the relationships of the features they are drawing. Portraits were my specialty also animals. As to teaching writing, I stress the importance of not using adverbs and few adjectives honoring Hemingway. This allows the reader to feel and to interpret the text rather than force the text on him/her.
As to teaching how to lecture, I have lectured at some 50 senior communities. My videos are enclosed in my profile. I teach the necessity of spontaneity and feeling the audience when speaking, always ready to adjust or change the direction of one's talk. I lectured on Picasso at Skinner Boston Auction when I sold my 3 pieces of historic Picasso jewelry. But I also lecture about my life experiences and encourage students to respect their experiences which need not involve the famous, but journeys in self-esteem and self-love. 43 years sober I lecture about becoming sober and encourage students when appropriate to do the same. Making an outline before a lecture is essential, but letting it go once you begin is also essential. Gratitude is one of the subjects of my lectures.
