I tutor high-school and college students in algebra, precalculus, calculus, discrete mathematics, physics, programming, and machine learning.
I hold a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and an Sc.B. with honors in Applied Mathematics from Brown University. I also completed a certificate program in Bioinformatics at Stanford University, along with specializations in Deep Learning and Data Science. In addition, I bring more than 30 years of experience as a computational scientist working in mathematics, physics, scientific programming, and machine learning.
I have taught undergraduates at Tufts University and the University of Minnesota in both classroom and online settings. At Tufts, I taught machine learning and discrete mathematics and was nominated by my students for the university’s Excellence in Online Teaching Award. At the University of Minnesota, I taught quantum mechanics, discrete mathematics, numerical analysis, and programming. I have also tutored high-school students individually in algebra, precalculus, logarithms, trigonometry, and related subjects.
My teaching style is patient, interactive, and tailored to the individual student. I identify the ideas or prerequisite skills causing difficulty, explain them step by step, and connect them to concrete examples. We then work through problems together, with progressively less assistance as the student gains understanding and confidence. My goal is not simply to help students complete an assignment, but to give them the understanding and skills they need to solve similar problems independently.
