I have been a Special Education Teacher for 9 years in the public school setting. I am currently working as a Job Coach helping students with an IEP learn job skills to use in the workforce when they get there.
Being a Special Education Teacher, I have a lot of experience in creating ways to learn certain concepts for students that struggle learning from their regular education teachers. There are so many rewards that come with seeing a student learn a concept that they struggle with.
I have numerous students require academic support in this course when I was in the public school setting.
I have always worked with students that struggle with reading and understanding what they are reading.
My high school students would only be functioning independently on 2nd-3rd grade levels.
I had to teach some of my high school students phonics instructions while helping them to read and write.
I treat all students that I come into contact with like I would want to be treated, with respect. I respect my students as well as their families. I have a lot of patience if it takes longer for students to catch on the certain concepts. I am also very creative with trial and error of methods that work and ones that do not work and then fix them. WIth that being said, I willingly accept any feedback from both the student and their parents/guardians.
Since I was working with high school students for my entire teaching career, I had numerous opportunities to help high school students prepare for their SAT's specifically in the area of writing. I am requesting $10 additional for each subsequent hour(s) after the first hour. For example, a tutoring session that lasts for 2 hours, payment would be $60 total for the session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Pennsylvania certification in Special Education N-12. I have been working in the public school system for nearly 10 years with children that have an IEP. I am a Lock Haven University graduate with a BS degree in Education. I am also a Drexel University graduate with a MS in Education concentrating on Learning Technology. I can implement my knowledge of technology to assist children that require technology to help them learn in their individual manner.
I have a special education teaching certificate so I have a great deal of experience with teaching students who struggle with reading whether they have an IEP or not.
