I'm Andrew. I've been tutoring engineering students for over two years. My students are civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and aerospace engineers. I tutor students from all educational backgrounds - students from community colleges all the way up to ivy league universities. The subjects I tutor include statics, dynamics, electronics, mechanics of materials, fluid and aero mechanics, calculus, engineering design, and all other subjects relating to engineering. In addition to helping students in individual subjects, I prepare students and engineers to take their EIT and PE exams.

My tutoring approach is I have students take a step back and see the larger picture. Too often engineers get too involved with the proverbial nuts and bolts that they lose sight of the larger picture. Try this for size: You're asked to design a jet engine, you jump in and begin designing the compressor, you quickly realize that your compressor isn't outputting the proper airflow to the combustor and your turbine isn't producing the right work and thrust. At this point frustration sets in. In this scenario I ask: What altitude is your engine operating at? What's the combustion temperature? What's the gas egress velocity? These are simply questions that put everything into perspective. This is the same approach I take with civil, chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering subjects and projects.

Currently I'm pursuing two graduate engineering degrees at University of Colorado-Boulder and TU Delft. I passed the EIT certification, which I'd be happy to share. But what students need to know about me is I began learning electrical and aeronautical engineering on my own during a time when I was bed ridden. From spending this time learning everything relating to engineering gave me an advantage in university. Not only has this benefited me, but I'm able to pass this knowledge onto students in an effective and productive manner. Other project experience include designing solid rocket fuel, jet engines, and analog electronics.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is use throughout engineering and I'm familiar with its usage and application to real world scenarios. I like to take students step by step through a Calculus equation showing them where every term and operation occurs.
Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering

I currently hold an Engineer in Training certificate and have 15 years of engineering experience coupled with 3 years of teaching. I have designed airplane structures, jet engines, and rocket motors. The knowledge from aeronautical engineering lends itself perfectly for civil engineering students looking for a tutor to aid in developing their statics and dynamics knowledge.
Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

I'm currently pursuing two masters degrees. One in electrical engineering and the other in aeronautical engineering. In EE, I currently tutor professionals and graduate students in power electronics. My other skills involve taking complex topics and breaking topics down into manageable lessons. I take students who are lost and confused and bring them into the engineering fold.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I'm currently pursuing two graduate degrees in aeronautical and electrical engineering. My areas of expertise in aeronautical engineering are statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. My teaching methods involves taking a topic breaking it down into smaller manageable lessons that build students up into thinking creative engineers.
Thermodynamics

Thermodynamics

When I began learning engineering, thermodynamics was one of the first subjects I quickly grasped . Since then I've been able to accurately explain to students how to use steam and R12 tables and how they apply to their studies and designs. Whether a student needs to learn how thermodynamics is used in every day life or how they apply to jet engines and rockets, I break the material down into digestible small steps for students to grasp.

Knowledgeable and very patient

Andrew was a tremendous help, he worked through the math problems I had, explaining each step in an easy to follow fashion, he is a patient and very approachable tutor- highly recommend Andrew for all things math.

Ryan, 17 lessons with Andrew

great teacher and very patient

By far one of the best tutoring sessions I’ve had. Started from the first step and worked through solutions and it has helped me understand the boost converter circuit. He came prepared with material to go over which was nice and answered any questions I had. If I didn’t know or understood he would explain in it in a different way for me to understand.
