Bio

I have worked in Special Education 15 years. I have both Elementary and Special Education degrees. I am also certified in middle school mathematics. I have experience in teaching Math, Science, Social Studies and English, Spanish, Study Skills, College/Career Readiness and a variety of other courses.

I am currently working at a school which specializes in ADD/ADHD and dyslexia. Students need to learn in chunks, with frequent breaks, which is difficult in a large group setting. Students with ADD/ADHD need multi-sensory experiences to develop skills on a mastery level. This needs to be done according to the individual needs of each student, which is why students with ADD/ADHD often need individualized instruction, and I have been working with these student for over 7 years.

I have won several awards at the county fair when I was a child. I have a great love for baking and cooking. Although I do not have any certifications, I currently am a Pampered Chef Consultant.
Dyslexia

I am certified in teaching Orton-Gillingham plus. I use several types of resources to aid in student learning. Phonetic components are especially important in the learning process. I feel combining the reading and writing process is beneficial to the overall learning of the English language. This has been helpful to students I have worked with in the past because it allows for the multi- functional use of our language.

I have done tutoring as a volunteer while I was in High School. When I went to college I majored in Elementary and Special Education. My duel major is helpful to students who need extra assistance in gaining the knowledge that requires one-on-one assistance. I am currently working at the high school level but have had several experience through high school and college working with the k-6 population.

I have elementary and special education degrees. The combination of these degrees help me assist students in basic reading skills. I have several resources that assist with this topic. I have taught these skills as all levels from elementary to high school. I have strive to teach students based on their prior knowledge and use fun activities to engage students in the learning process. I enjoy making games that will benefit that individual student, once I have an understanding of their interests and skills. Phonics is FUN!

Patient and flexible

Diane was awesome with my daughter who can be a little shy. She was very patient and took time to find out what my daughter’s base line was to understand where to start with her. I made a mistake in scheduling and she was very easily flexible to accommodate my requests.
