Hello students! I’m Jill, an industrial engineering student at Penn State finishing finishing my final year with Dean’s List standing. As an engineer, I have great math skills and have received an A+ in college Calculus I and II, as well as Calc III, Matrices, and Differential Equations. I have always enjoyed math and chose an engineering major which allows me to utilize my math skills. I currently apply all these skills at my job as a manufacturing engineer.

Currently, I work as a tutor for Penn State, helping students with everything from Algebra courses to Calculus. I have learned strategies for effective STEM teaching, which enhances my ability to tutor any level. I structure my approach around “productive struggle,” in which I demonstrate examples that build from easy to more difficult. I present students with specific problems for completion and allow them to attempt problems on their own. I believe that lots of practice is required for mastery, but it is achievable via example problems/proofs for older students and memory aids/games for younger students.

Because of my STEM exposure, I realize the difficulty of learning new material. I have helped students understand calculus topics like the chain rule through concept maps, as well as algebra basics through trial and error. My strategy of building confidence transfers to all math levels. My ability to work with younger ages along with my STEM background and tutoring experience at Penn State make me an ideal tutor for all levels.

I look forward to helping you better understand math and move it inside your comfort zone. I respond to messages quickly, so feel free to reach out for more information or to schedule a session!
