I am an experienced high school mathematics teacher with more than 25 years of experience working with students. I currently teach Geometry and Precalculus and have taught a wide range of high school mathematics courses throughout my career. My experience has prepared me to tutor students in Geometry, Algebra I, Precalculus, and Trigonometry. I have extensive experience teaching students ages 14–18 in classroom settings and have worked with students of varying academic abilities, learning styles, and levels of confidence.
My teaching approach focuses on making challenging mathematical concepts understandable and accessible to each student. I break complicated problems into manageable steps and use different explanations, examples, and approaches when needed. I believe students should understand not only how to find an answer, but why the process works. I use guided practice, questioning, modeling, review of foundational skills, and real-world applications to develop understanding and confidence. I also encourage students to work independently so they become stronger, more confident problem-solvers.
In addition to my classroom teaching experience, I have more than 25 years of experience coaching high school varsity athletics. Coaching has strengthened my ability to communicate with students, identify individual areas of need, provide constructive feedback, and adapt my approach to help each student improve. I have worked with students one-on-one as well as in small and large group settings. My goal as a tutor is to create a comfortable environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through challenging material. I believe my combination of extensive teaching, individualized instruction, and mentoring experience allows me to help students improve both their mathematical skills and confidence.
