Hi! My name is Zainab, and I am a Biology student at Penn State Harrisburg with a concentration in Genetics and Development and a minor in Genetic Analysis. I have always been passionate about science and helping others understand challenging concepts. During my time in college, I have developed a strong academic foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics, and I currently work as a research assistant conducting computational chemistry research focused on isotope fractionation in minerals and molecules. Through both my coursework and research, I have gained experience breaking down complex scientific ideas into clear and understandable explanations.
While in college, I have frequently helped classmates study for exams, understand difficult homework problems, and work through challenging concepts in science and math courses. These experiences helped me realize how much I enjoy teaching and mentoring others. My tutoring approach focuses on helping students truly understand the concepts rather than just memorizing steps. I like to walk students through problems step-by-step, explain the reasoning behind each step, and encourage them to ask questions so they can develop confidence in their abilities. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my explanations and pace to fit each student's needs.
In addition to my academic experience, I volunteered as a crisis counselor with Crisis Text Line, where I learned how important patience, communication, and empathy are when supporting others. This experience strengthened my ability to listen carefully, explain ideas clearly, and create a supportive environment where people feel comfortable asking questions.
My goal as a tutor is to help students feel confident in their understanding, develop strong problem-solving skills, and build a positive relationship with learning.
