I have over 15 years of experience teaching at the college level and have two Masters degrees, an M. Ed. in Reading and an MA in English. With my dual Masters degrees, I come to you with the advantage of having knowledge and experience with both sides of the “literacy coin.” My main focus of tutoring is English Composition at the college level. I have over 15 years of experience teaching at the college level and have two Masters degrees, an M. Ed. in Reading and an MA in English. With my dual Masters degrees, I come to you with the advantage of having knowledge and experience with both sides of the “literacy coin.” My main focus of tutoring is English Composition at the college level. In my fifteen years of teaching teens and adults at the college level, my students have learned how to become more effective academic readers and writers. Sometimes, students may find that their needs, reading and writing, overlap and need help knowing where to begin. This is something that I can help with.

There are frequent themes I encounter with my students when they discuss their writing. These may come from a place of not feeling confident or possible gaps in areas of learning. Do you recognize yourself in any of these situations?

Do you struggle to know what to write, or do you write so much and don't know when to stop?

Do you start writing about one thing and then end up writing about something completely different, or do you start writing and end up repeating yourself?

Does the word grammar make you run in fear?


Or maybe you don't know how to say what you are thinking?

Or maybe you don’t understand the assignment and need help getting started?

These are common fears and concerns, and many writers encounter a mix of the above. What is important is for you to recognize your areas of focus. In our tutoring sessions, we first discuss your area of weakness, and then I show you how to improve in that area. We work as a team. I don't point out the areas of weakness and say done. I don't show you how to fix them and say done. The goal is for you to learn the skills you need to be a successful writer and then independently incorporate these skills into your future writing.

Before that, I worked as an elementary school teacher. I have designed and taught courses in Integrated Reading and Writing. Additionally, I can help you avoid unintentionally plagiarizing by helping you paraphrase text from an original source and help with the common formatting styles of MLA and APA.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Jackie was everything we were looking for and more.
