Hi, I'm Marielle (Mary-L)! I have a passion for learning and teaching, which started because of the incredible teachers in my life. I graduated from Saint Francis University (PA) with a degree in History, a concentration in Secondary Education, and a minor in Exercise Physiology. I am a certified 7-12 teacher in Pennsylvania for both social studies and English.
Currently, I teach American history for ninth grade classes of all levels, as well as AP United States History (APUSH), for advanced upper-classmen. I've been a teacher for the past 7 years. History is my favorite topic to teach, because it is so fun! It is all a story, and now we, in the present, get to unravel it. While knowing and understanding individual facts, people, and events of the past is undeniably important, my specialty comes in seeing trends, themes, continuities, and changes over time.
In 2025, I also completed my Masters degree in American History. While reading, analyzing, and writing have always been passions of mine, I was able to seriously hone in on those abilities through the work required for my degree with Norwich University. Additionally, I've also attended two APUSH Readings, which is where we grade the written portion of the official APUSH exams each June. This experience - specifically with the DBQs - has helped me truly understand what the graders are looking for in each essay and how each rubric point is earned (or missed). Helping my APUSH students hit that target has been incredibly satisfying.
While I most commonly teach full classes, I also offer many tutoring options for my students, and am looking to expand those opportunities for individual or small group tutoring online. Please reach out to me to set up lessons or review!
