Hello! My name is Queen, and I'm a Math Specialist for middle and high school content.

Education Summary:
I graduated magna cum laude from the City College of New York with a B.A. in Pure Mathematics. Then, I took some graduate courses at NYU (major: cybersecurity) before leaving to pursue teaching in disadvantaged public schools. Eventually, I took more graduate courses at other universities across various disciplines (proofs, probability/statistics, data science).

Teaching Summary:
Since 2014, I have tutored and coached students on various math topics. I began with group tutoring at a community college, then ventured into private coaching as a Math Specialist. As a Math Specialist, I help students of all abilities from fourth grade through college.

Most of my teaching experience has been in high schools. I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus at a few high-performing charter schools and a Blue Ribbon magnet school.

In addition, I worked as a teacher and private tutor at a tutoring center for three years while I took a break from teaching in schools. I taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, SAT Math, Precalculus, and Bergen Academy Prep (Math).

Philosophy:
My style of teaching and tutoring is heavily Socratic, which empowers students to do a high ratio of the work necessary to solve problems. It entails asking students questions in a way that enables them to be an active participant in the learning process. I have personally found this method to be *extremely powerful* in getting students to reach higher levels of mastery and higher grades in school!

If you book with me, YOU WILL WORK during our session. That's how I do things both in school and in private coaching. The goal is not to show you that I can do it; it's to show you that YOU can do it. That requires pulling you into the problem-solving process!

Reach out to me with any questions and to book.

Finite Math

Finite Math

Finite math is a lower-level math class that covers a range of topics, not including calculus. Some things that tend to be covered are logic, set theory, probability theory, matrices, and statistics. I have taken courses in each of these topics. In addition, I have coached students in all of these areas, so overall I am well-qualified to help students with finite math.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught geometry in three different high schools. I love helping students with this material!
Precalculus

Precalculus

Precalculus courses can differ widely in the content that is covered, but the goal is always to prepare students to tackle calculus. No matter your major or background, I can help you ace this material!
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is usually covered in geometry and precalculus coursework, as it easily ties in with the content. I love helping students with this material!

Knowledgeable and patient

Queen is amazing and can really break down problems and finds different ways to explain something in order for me to better understand it. She makes a great math coach and I'm so glad I found her!

Knowledgeable and very patient

Queen has been so great with my daughter. She knew to tackle other areas of math first which will then allow my daughter to understand math problems that are to come as she moves into her freshman year. She pushes my daughters limits and in return will give her the confidence to move forward.

Awesome math tutor!!

My son had his first session with Queen last week and it was great!!! He really liked her and so did I. I like her method for teaching math, my son doesn't struggle too much in math but I think the sessions with Queen will help keep him on track as the lessons get a bit harder.

She was sooo great

My 16 year old text me immediately after her 1st session with Queen and said "she was sooo great" & definitely wants to meet with her regularly.

GREAT COACH

Queen is the ideal math coach. She's patient and doesn't mind repeating herself. She's very intelligent and was able to answer all my math questions, even if off topic. She's very funny and made learning math fun which helped boost my confidence. I look forward to our next session.

Friendly, knowledgeable, and a patient tutor!

Queen is an extremely delightful person. She arrived on time prepared to work. In the one hour session, Queen identified several weakness and strengths through a Common Core assessment. She continued on to develop those weakness through the use of money manipulative and visual prompts. My son likes her and I will be hiring Queen for weekly sessions. We look forward in seeing Queen again!!
