About Chris

Bio

Intro: Hi! My name is Chris Choi, and I am a current medical student offering summer tutoring for the MCAT and college-level STEM courses. I specialize in the CP section of the MCAT, as well as General and Organic Chemistry; however, I am proficient in other topics and more than happy to help what I can. Outside of Wyzant, I am also available to serve as an application consultant or writing tutor.

Background: I graduated from Emory University in 2021 with degrees in Chemistry (B.A.) and English (B.A.). I have extensive experience as an educator: I served as a university general and organic chemistry tutor during my sophomore year of college and was a teaching assistant for biochemistry for two semesters during my junior year. In the years before entering medical school at the Penn State College of Medicine, I was promoted to a course developer at Emory, working alongside my former biochemistry professor and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI).

I scored a 518 on the MCAT (95th %tile) with the following section breakdown:
CP 131 (99th %tile) | CARS 127 (83rd %tile) | BB 130 (98th %tile) | PS 130 (98th %tile)

Policies: To be the most effective tutor possible, I offer the first session as a free consultation. This allows me to understand where I am needed most and work with students to devise a tutoring schedule based on our discussed learning objectives. To respect everyone's time, I have a few basic policies regarding scheduling and cancellations:

1. Cancellations must be made at least 4 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the session.
2. Missed sessions and untimely cancellations will be charged at half the hourly rate, if explanations are not provided.
3. I prefer remote, online tutoring, but I can accommodate in-person sessions within a 20-mi radius.
4. I will respond messages via text message in 24 hours and 48 hours for correspondences made via email and Wyzant.

Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a Chemistry major at Emory University and have excelled in the courses offered at my school. I have served as a Class Tutor for organic chemistry and am TAing for Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry the next two semesters. Aside from this I have over 100 hours in tutoring students in AP Chemistry which has considerable overlap with the topics being tested on the SAT Subject test.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I earned a B.A. in English Literature as my second degree from Emory University. My degree focused on Irish Poetry and Literature arising from 19th-20th century Ireland as well as Shakespeare and dramaturgical analysis. I designed and facilitated an undergraduate chemistry course at my alma mater to blend the disciplines of Organic/Synthetic Chemistry and Theater; a large part of the resultant "Ecological Theater" course required students to submit creative submissions that imbued recent, socially-relevant scientific advances with the underlying emotions of affected persons and parties. As a co-course director with a secondary role as a TA, I graded numerous creative writing submissions.
