I've been in graphic design for over 10 years, and I've taught for seven years at a Technical School. I specialize in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign. I know Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well, with a little HTML and CSS.
My experience as a teacher helped me a lot to manage, organize and structure course material in a logical and straight forward manner, though most importantly I've learned how to deal with different types of learners. Aside from this, I feel, through my design experience, that I'm to relate each to subject to real world experience.
My general approach is to go through the basics and essentials of the software, through lecture/instruction and exercises. From there, I'll assign more in depth projects, working with the student, to help solve/finish the project. My belief, and my personal experience, either as instructor and as student, is that learning and progress happens most through hands on experience, after a proper foundation has been built.
