I graduated from Penn State University in 2016 with a BS in psychology, life sciences option. My courses ranged from neurology, gender psychology, biological anthropology, child psychology, research methods, writing in the social sciences, animal psychology, and more. Besides formal education, I like to use my free time to watch educational materials on a variety of subjects that pique my interest, such as Cold War history, military technology, world history, and geography.

My first tutoring experience was in 2019, and it rapidly diversified. At first, I was just answering user-submitted questions and cataloguing them to the website Study.com. However, during the one-year contract, I took a similar side job with CourseHero, where I also had to respond to feedback from the students I was answering. And just a few months later, I entered Chegg's tutoring program, which was real-time, one-on-one tutoring. They terminated this program in 2021, but I joined a similar website called Varsity Tutors.

Varsity Tutors is where I've done most tutoring since. A typical session can be a lot of things depending on the student's needs, but I usually either go over notes and explain where they have questions or deliver supplemental lectures and review questions. In fact, I have a file of notes I've made about many subjects over time to use when students don't have material to go over. I also use various educational resources such as Crash Course and Khan Academy, usually either for diagrams or videos that show certain processes in motion. I have the most experience with high school or college biology and English.

I've consistently been highly rated throughout my experience. Most recently, I have a 4.7/5 rating on Varsity Tutors that has been stable since shortly after I joined the website. But I'm always looking to diversify and not be at the whims of any particular website or company, which has brought me to Wyzant. I'm excited to have more direct input to negotiating sessions between myself and clients.

Approved Subjects

American History

American History

It's a little outside my main area of expertise (psychology, biology) but I was good with history, particularly in high school. Being American, our focus was always on American history. It's an interesting enough subject that I also learn about it in my free time. It comes up semi-regularly in my tutoring experience, particularly since other subjects, like psychology and English, often incorporate topics from history.
Biology

Biology

I've been tutoring since 2019, and most of those lessons have been in biology. I took biology and life science courses for most of college. I technically majored in "psychology (life science option)," but only because there were too many math courses (trigonometry, calculus, etc.) in a biology degree. The actual biology subjects I had no problem with.
Psychology

Psychology

In completing my degree, I took classes ranging from abnormal psychology to child psychology to gender psychology to neuroscience. There isn't much about high school or undergraduate psychology I can't answer. This includes experience in conducting research and writing papers. I don't get as many chances to tutor it as I want, but I really enjoy it when I do.
Writing

Writing

As a social science major (psychology), I had to write many research papers in many different formats, including experiments, literature reviews, argumentative essays, and more. Since I graduated and became a tutor, English and writing are some of my most in-demand subjects, so I've given guidance on how to draft and improve a lot of papers. There are too many aspects to discuss here, but to pick just one many students request, I've been told I'm very good at explaining how thesis statements work, since students often find their teachers' explanations unclear and confusing. One reason I like to focus on that is that the thesis statement can be used to drive the entire structure of the paper, so a stronger thesis statement helps improve everything else in the essay.
