I'm Elizabeth! I graduated from Bates College with a BA in History and then continued to receive my Masters in History from Temple University. I also have my Instructional II certification in Social Studies. I have 12 years teaching experience and consider myself to be a dynamic professional and a person committed to the role of educator. Please allow me to highlight a few aspects of my work that reflect some of the characteristics critical to the role of tutor!

My teaching has a depth of historical content and pedagogy as I have taught a variety of courses throughout the years ranging from American History to Modern World History. In any course that I tutor, I strive to weave the stories of human experiences into the curriculum. It is my goal to inspire all of my students to be thinkers, collaborators, innovators, and leaders who are challenged to appreciate the variety of experiences in the world that surrounds them. I like to include active hands-on learning segments that move beyond just lectures, interweaving learning material into a broader context to help students make sense of the content and create durable learning.

I believe teaching goes beyond the classroom. Along with my dedication to the academic development of children, my work as a lacrosse/field hockey coach speaks to my commitment to the physical and mental well-being of students. I believe that the characteristics of grit, perseverance, and commitment are not only taught in the classroom, but also on the sports field and in other extracurricular activities.

I appreciate both high school and middle school students. It is a privilege and a challenge to work with students during these years of education and to empower them to want to be what I hope will be, life-long learners. The questions asked, the joy in success, and the beginning stages of learning about who they are as they venture toward adult-hood – make these years of learning both fun and daunting.
