I have 30 years of teaching experience in the United States and abroad.
I help you with conversation, grammar, and composition to achieve specific life goals.

My Bachelor's degree is in foreign language education.
I grew up on a family that lived around the world. I enjoy meeting and helping people.

I'm great at figuring out how to help you overcome your obstacles so that you can be successful and live your dream.
I also like helping junior high, high school and college students with writing and presentation projects in any situation where communication is important, for example, writing the text for a PowerPoint presentation for history class, writing a Bat Mitzvah speech, writing a great toast for a wedding, writing a great essay for philosophy or English literature class, or editing your application essay so the interviewer wants to accept you.

I make sure that my students develop great standardized test taking skills to help their scores improve.

Also, I help you develop a good writing style so that when you want to express yourself in a class assignment, essay or speech, you can say what you mean and mean what you say in a well organized way. Let me teach you my easy five-steps so that you can be a good writer today.

I believe what makes me most qualified is that I love to teach.
My tutoring skills are my way to express how much I care about my students.

I want to be a part of your life. What is your goal? Tell me. What can I help you with? ESL? ELA? SAT? ACT? TOEFL? Essay? Application? Speech? Interview Preparation?
Let's smile and work together for your future.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I was the director of the Career Resource Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Chamapaign and have, since that time, continued to keep current in the college selection and application process as well as career targeting and successful research and interviewing process. My life coaching skills accompanied with my writing abilities supports my clients to focusing on what they care about and developing the skills they need to successfully pursue their goals. Many of my ESL teaching jobs, whether in a classroom or for a private student, were for adults who asked me to teach units on career development and job acquisition.

Chess

I am experienced introducing kids as well as adults to chess at which point they can enjoy the game with friends or family or accept my referral to a local chess club. That means that your youngster -- or you! -- can turn up to the first day of chess club feeling comfortable and confident and ready to play and improve. And, yes, it means that you can use chess to enhances strategic thinking as well as to enjoy quality family time. Just a few meetings are necessary to get the basics and get started having fun.

College Counseling

I was the director of the Career Resource center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and have continued to keep current with issues in education. I have tutored and coached several students in their last few years of high school until their graduation in order to support the process of examining their options and finding out more about themselves in order to generate a focused game plan of career interests, college selection and application essay writing. I am particularly helpful to students from non-native families who are not familiar with U.S. higher education.

ESL/ESOL

I have 30 years of experience teaching all aspect of English (conversation; writing; reading; pronunciation; culture; accent reduction; business English, etc.). I always find out what my student wants and tailor every lesson to match the interests and goals of my student. I am friendly and hard working and enjoy being an ESL/EFL/ESOL teacher and tutor for people of all ages.

Handwriting

I have taught handwriting to European and Russian educated adult students who want to be able to read and write easy-to-understand notes such as telephone messages without the confusion of 4 vs. 9; 1 vs. 7; o vs. a; etc. I am able to write like a European or American since I was born in Germany and came to the U.S. at 11 years of age and know this from personal experience as well as from the classroom. Additionally, I studied calligraphy (because I used to be a graphics designer) and have a good appreciation and manner to teach handwriting in an easy way. ALSO, I have experience teaching elementary age school kids who are struggling to produce legible, neat and nice English letters. We can learn quickly. It's easy and will make you feel so confident and great.

Public Speaking

I am an ordained minister which requires me to speak to groups in various settings including life cycle events, e.g., weddings and funerals, conducting worship services which include sermons and giving talks or lectures.

Religion

After graduate studies in comparative religion in the religion department at the University of Virginia, I studied at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College for six years. I have experience as a congregational leader, religious school education director, chaplain, writer, counselor and life cycle facilitator (including Bar/Bat Mitzvah; weddings including interfaith couples; commitment ceremonies; funerals, etc.).
