Kevin H.

My name is Kevin and I graduated cum laude from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education and a minor in coaching. I am a combat veteran and served in the Army as a paratrooper with America's Guard of Honor, the 82nd Airborne Division. I realized during my time in the military that I loved teaching and mentoring young soldiers, so when I became a civilian, I decided I wanted to get my degree in education.

I received my certification for grades K-6 in PA, but after graduating, I had an amazing opportunity to work with the Army to help National Guard recruits from all over the US to attain their GEDs and continue their military service. I worked for two years teaching soldiers math, science, reading, writing and social studies to prepare them to pass the GED exam. I am proud of the success that my students attained, with a pass percentage of 98%.

My current position is with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs where I teach medical and pharmaceutical billing nationwide for all of the VA medical centers. Although medical billing can be a very mundane topic, I enjoy making it exciting or my students as they learn the basics to their new job. In this position I am responsible for both virtual and face to face instruction as well as managing the national curriculum and heading multiple collaboration groups.

Although I love my current job, tutoring allows me the opportunity to continue doing what I am truly passionate about, and that is teaching and mentoring young students in their quest for academic success. I may not currently teach in a public school, but my drive to help students reach their potential is still a big part of who I am. I look forward to working with you in developing a successful plan for reaching your goals.
