I believe that anyone can learn German with the right help and support!

I have been immersed in reading, speaking, and teaching German for my entire life and have bilingual proficiency. My mother and her family immigrated to the US from Germany in the 1950s, and I first learned German as a young child. In middle and high school, I took 5 years of German and scored a 5 on the AP exam. When my teacher was out on medical leave, I taught his German 3 class for 1 month. I talk with relatives in Germany weekly, visit them annually, and am a member of a German club which meets monthly. I have traveled around German speaking countries and have also lived and worked in Germany.

As a student at Dartmouth, I majored in German Studies (and Biology). I studied German literature and wrote papers in German analyzing works by Goethe, Mann, and others.

In addition, I got experience teaching German as a TA in the German Studies Department at Dartmouth. I led German "drill sessions" 4x a week for groups of 5-7 college-aged students using the Rassias Method for learning a foreign language. I also provided personalized tutoring for individual students who were enrolled in German Level 1, 2, and 3 courses.

Since college, I have continued providing personalized, one-on-one tutoring in German to people of all ages (8 through adult). One of my tutees was a 16-year-old high school student with ADHD who started out as a complete beginner in German. I crafted a unique learning plan to meet his educational needs by introducing and reinforcing vocabulary through enjoyable recall exercises, conversations, and real-world challenges. More advanced sessions included writing a grocery shopping list, reading train timetables, preparing to attend a soccer match, and ordering off a menu.
