I'm Ava! I graduated with honors from the University of Southern California with a BS in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Cinematic Arts. Throughout my time in school, I experienced many teaching styles and saw first hand how they can each be beneficial for different types of students. I strive to work with each student to find what methods work best for them, rather than coercing them to subscribe to a method that isn't working. I personally strive to introduce topics in a fun and creative way, then teach the material step-by-step. I then give students time to work on their own and then we can double-check their work and adjust when needed to ensure they fully understand the material and feel comfortable asking questions when they don't.
During my time in college, I participated in Robpals, an engineering club that hosted weekly engineering workshops for a local elementary school class, covering a wide range of topics from chemistry to building circuits. I personally led workshops and activities to groups ranging from 10-20 to smaller groups of 4-7. Working with varying group sizes helped finetune my approaches and made me confident in my teaching abilities. This setting typically involved teaching mathematical concepts from Algebra to Trigonometry and scientific concepts like Biology. Additionally, in my senior year of high school, I tutored a first grade student in reading once a week for the duration of the year. This gave me valuable experience tutoring in a 1 on 1 environment where I learned to craft lesson plans and tailor them towards weaknesses and strengths to encourage the most growth over time.
I want to provide the most helpful tutoring sessions possible depending on each student's individual needs whether that's needing additional help learning a specific concept or preparing for an upcoming exam or essay. I welcome any requests or resources from parents and students and am easily reachable with fast response times. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
