During the course of my 10 years as a professional musician, I have gained valuable experience teaching the following musical subjects (equally in the jazz and classical traditions): composition, theory, history, performance, and instrumental technique on clarinet, bass clarinet, and piano. In addition to my B.M. and M.M. degrees in Jazz Composition and Performance, I surpassed the equivalent of a minor in the Africana Studies Department at Oberlin College.
I currently teach lessons in piano, alto saxophone, and clarinet at the Community Music School in Allentown, PA, and in my own studio. My students come from a diversity of backgrounds, ages (5 to 77), and musical levels. I develop a unique course of study for each student with three primary goals: 1.) Establish excellent instrumental technique, 2.) Understand the fundamentals of music theory, and 3.) Learn a performable repertoire that helps the student develop their love for music.
During my two years at New England Conservatory, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in both the Music Theory and Music History/Musicology departments. In addition to teaching lectures and maintaining class organization, I led one-on-one and group tutoring sessions for my students to aide their progress. In addition to in-person sessions, I led group tutoring sessions remotely via Zoom for students in nonsynchronous time zones to help them succeed in their coursework.
