I'm Eric and I've been a lifelong believer in helping other people. I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2009 with two undergraduate Degrees: History; Political Science and International Relations. I then was commissioned as an Officer in the US Army and served until 2017 with two tours in Afghanistan. When I got out I became a social worker specializing in helping to develop the talents and skills of those who need help. In 2019 I completed a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from American University. and currently am engrossed in learning for the love of learning.
When it comes to teaching my experience is not your standard fare. I started teaching others in the Boy Scouts and as a martial arts instructor during high school which gave me a solid grounding in figuring out how to teach fairly complex skills in simple ways. I started doing informal tutoring in history with my peers as well and led study groups because I realized that I could better enhance my understanding while teaching others. In the Army I was actually a trainer who worked with the Afghan Army and multi-national forces which really allowed me to broaden my experience and teaching style to suit people from a very wide variety of social and cultural backgrounds.
In my time being a social worker I've worked one on one and in groups with people to develop skills they have needed in order to improve their lives despite being marginalized, hindered, and forgotten about by society at large. I find the calling to serve and help others where they are and how they are in important thing and strive to bring the best I can to those who I can help. I currently serve as a catechist (Sunday school teacher) at my local parish and I take no small satisfaction in saying that I can make even these classes informative and engaging for my students.
