Writing is hard, but it doesn't have to feel so frustrating and undoable. It doesn't have to feel so bad.

I know because I'm a writer and a teacher, so I have a lot of experience with writing and guiding others through the process from generating ideas to drafting to final edits. Writing is a skill like any other thing we learn to do. My goal is to quickly figure out your style then enhance it with customized methods, techniques, and tools so that you not only complete your assignments but feel confident while doing it.

I am not your typical English teacher. My M.A. is in Humanities: Composition & Rhetoric. This gives me an approach to teaching writing that isn't based in "English rules and grammar." Rather it's based in critical thinking, structuring reasoning, and expressing points-of-view. Whatever the assignment, whatever the type of writing, I will help you identify the steps you have to take to complete it then guide you through the process.

Professional summary: After completing my degree, I taught college composition classes for 5 years before moving into journalistic writing. I spent 10 years focused on government and socioeconomics. consulted businesses, nonprofits, volunteer organizations, & local governments and wrote articles featured in the New York Times, Bloomberg, Reuters, and NPR. From there, I acted as a communications consultant for nonprofits, businesses, and local governments. This combination of academic and real world experiences gives me a relatable and practical approach to teaching writing.

Currently, I work one on one with students coaching them through the college application process; academic essays, high school executive functioning; business communications; and personal writing, including creative.
