One of my passions in life has been always been caring for young children and adolescents while watching them learn, grow, and blossom. One of my passions in life has been always been caring for young children and adolescents while watching them learn, grow, and blossom. I have always helped others starting when I was a young teenager from baby sitting to helping neighbors in my community/church continuing through volunteer opportunities and eventually to the care of my own children. I soon realized that there is a growing need for quality child care and educators, therefore, I become an educator in order to become a part of the solution in my community. I completed my bachelor's degree and and now in the process of becoming certified in Middle Grades 4-8th with a Math Concentration. With my gift of helping and love of learning, I expect to have my own classroom soon educating and helping other students.

My professional experiences are very broad from over 29 years of customer service to child/adult care then technical/computer skills and now education. Besides helping my own four children and family with their homework, college has helped me sharpen my tutor skills / instructional skills. For the last four years (2010 - 2014), I have had practicums (in- school instructional / tutoring opportunities), in-school / after school tutoring (some as a paid tutoring position) all within grades 4th-12th. My in-school / after-school experiences was concentrated in grades 4-8th and I assisted teachers and students with instruction in language arts, reading, writing, history, math subjects, and some science. I student taught 4 months in 4th grade teaching all subjects. In every opportunity I had to be with students, I loved getting to know each and every one of them as much as I could and when they were successful that made me feel the same. I love when one of my students, "got it," and could then retain and apply that knowledge to new challenging work. Watching my students work hard and having fun is what kept me motivated as they gave their all. My success is really dependent on their success. Tutoring is not about telling or giving of the knowledge I know, but my ability to reach their level and help them to the next. As they are able to learn from me, I am also able to learn from them. Every student learns differently and I do my best to understand their style of learning and cultivate an safer learning environment, lessons, activities that set him/her up to be successful at whatever he/she is trying to accomplish.

Great tutoring March 5, 2018

Karen was excellent again. Spent time making sure concepts were understood. Is taking time on fine tuning a more specific approach to better teach the concept.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Karen is very knowledgeable with the subject and patient when working with my son. Looking forward to working with her again. My son is very quiet and she was able to get him to work with her without a problem. I would recommend her to anyone.

Very Helpful Tutor

My daughter needed help with division of mixed numbers and Karen was very helpful in getting her on solid ground. I definitely will continue having her as a tutor for my daughter.

Thanks, Karen!

Karen is very in tune with what my child needs. She looks for new ways to explain and introduce concepts while getting to know how best to instruct him individually.
