One of my passions in life has always been caring for young children and adolescents while watching them learn, grow, and blossom. By the age of 7 I knew I wanted to teach and becoming and thus I become an educator when I could finally focus on this lifetime dream. I completed my bachelor's degree and now in the process of becoming certified in Middle Grades 4-8th with a Math Concentration. With my gift of helping and love of learning, I can continue being the light that so many young people need these days.

My professional experiences are very broad from over 29 years of customer service to child/adult care then technical/computer skills and now education. Besides helping my own four children and family with their homework, college has helped me sharpen my instructional skills. After obtaining my degree in fall of 2014, I concentrated on building my passion to teach through working in specialized education and being a private educator/tutor. As a private educator/tutor I taught students 1-12 grade and some lower-level college classes. I mainly focus on my area of concentration Math in grades 4-8th. I also instruct in language arts, reading, writing, history, math, and some science.

It is exciting to see when a student "gets it," then retains and can apply that knowledge to mastery. Watching my students work hard and having fun is what keeps me motivated as they give their all. Tutoring is not about telling or giving of the knowledge I know, but my ability to reach them at their level and build confidence to get to the next. As they learn from me, I am also able to learn from them. Every student learns differently, and I do my best to understand their style of learning and cultivate lessons, activities that set him/her up to be successful at whatever he/she is trying to accomplish. My philosophy is that as my students succeed then I have succeeded.

Very patient

Karen took the time to get my daughter to come out of her shell on her first lesson. My daughter said it was good and she “actually learned something”. That’s a high complement coming from my daughter!!

Great tutoring March 5, 2018

Karen was excellent again. Spent time making sure concepts were understood. Is taking time on fine tuning a more specific approach to better teach the concept.

Very Helpful Tutor

My daughter needed help with division of mixed numbers and Karen was very helpful in getting her on solid ground. I definitely will continue having her as a tutor for my daughter.

Thanks, Karen!

Karen is very in tune with what my child needs. She looks for new ways to explain and introduce concepts while getting to know how best to instruct him individually.
