Stanford (Graduate Coursework)
I have more than 25 years of teaching experience (mainly chemistry) as well as experience (and experiences) in coaching. I began my teaching career at The Stonleight-Burnham School in Massachusetts where I taught chemistry and coached basketball, eventually being named to the position of Dean of Students. I then took a position as science curriculum coordinator at The American H.S. of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - a K-12 school of more than 2,000 students, where I also taught chemistry and coached basketball, soccer, and baseball. After learning to speak Portuguese, I taught chemistry for a year at Universade Federal do R.J.
I returned to The United States after living in Brazil for some 5 years, assuming the position of Science Department Head at Mercersburg Academy in Franklin County PA where I taught both general chemistry, and advanced placement chemistry, as well as being the head basketball and baseball coach. My last classroom experience was at The Nativity School of Harrisburg - a middle school for poverty level boys, where I taught science, math and Latin - as well as being the head basketball and soccer coach.
I am a graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. in Entomology, as well as earning the M.S. portion of a joint M.S./PhD program in entomology and pesticide chemistry. I have also earned graduate credits in .html coding from Stanford University, as well as receiving a certificate in advanced Portuguese from Universidade Pontifico Catholoco in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I have extensive experience in teaching science (mainly chemistry), but also have experience in teaching general math, pre-algebra, and geometry.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
