I hold a PhD in physics from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor's degree in physics with a minor in mathematics from Temple University. I tutor high school and undergraduate physics, including mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and quantum mechanics. In mathematics I cover everything from algebra through the full calculus sequence, probability and statistics, and differential equations, both ordinary and partial. I also teach Python, from a first introduction to the language through scientific and numerical work.

My teaching began at a learning center, where I spent a year with students ranging from elementary through high school, followed by two years tutoring undergraduates at Temple. At Penn State I spent more than five years as a graduate teaching assistant and tutor, running recitations and lab sections and holding office hours for introductory and intermediate physics, and then a year as a graduate lecturer with my own course. Alongside all of that I have tutored privately for years, one on one, with high school students, college students, and adults returning to school. Outside of teaching I have worked as a researcher, software engineer, and financial modeler, so I can usually answer the question of where a particular piece of mathematics actually gets used.

My approach is to teach students "how to fish". In a session I would rather hand a student a problem and let them take a wrong turn than narrate a clean solution they will have forgotten by the weekend. Mistakes made in a low-stakes setting are how someone learns which approaches suit them, which ones do not, and how to get unstuck on a problem they have never seen before. It costs a little time at the start and pays off for the rest of their education. I work well with students who are behind and want to catch up, and equally well with students who are already comfortable and want to go further. I tutor online and locally, and I set my own hours, so my availability is flexible.

Algebra 1

Excellence with algebra is essential for working with mathematics. I've honed and used my skills with algebra through education, research, and industry every day for two decades.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Excellence with algebra is essential for working with mathematics. I've honed and used my skills with algebra through education, research, and industry every day for two decades.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is an integral tool in mathematics, physics, statistics, and engineering. I've honed and used my skills with calculus through education, research, and industry nearly every day for two decades.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

Differential equations are an integral tool in mathematics, physics, statistics, quantitative finance, and engineering. I've honed my skills with differential equations during my education and research and make regular use of them to this day.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is an integral part of physics and mathematics in general. Through my years of physics, I've developed expertise with geometry and have used that in teaching it to hundreds of students.
Physics

Physics

I hold a PhD in Physics and have spent more than fifteen years teaching the subject, from introductory mechanics and electricity and magnetism through upper-level quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and classical dynamics. Additionally, while now working in industry, I use the the lessons from this field nearly daily when approaching real world problems.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Excellence with algebra is essential for working with mathematics. I've honed and used my skills with algebra through education, research, and industry every day for two decades.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Excellence with calculus and algebra is essential for working with mathematics. I've honed and used my skills with algebra through education, research, and industry every day for two decades.
Probability

Probability

Questions of probability are integral in physics and "real world problems". Quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics/thermodynamics are probabilistic theories at their core. Additionally, probability theory is integral in quantitative finance, forecasting, and risk analysis.
Python

Python

Build python simulation code for MRI signals, physical processes, and tomographic image reconstruction. Worked as a research software engineer and data scientist for four years at Composable Analytics, a Cambridge based data-ops company. Freelance data scientist with Unabated Sports building professional sports forecasting models.
Statistics

Statistics

Questions of statistics are integral for answering empirical questions in physics and other real world disciplines.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is an integral part of physics and mathematics in general. Through my years of physics, I've developed expertise with trig and have used that in teaching it to hundreds of students.
