I have 20 years of teaching experience in science and other subjects, and presently am an environmental education teacher at Salt Springs Park in Montrose, Pa. My career has encompassed science teaching, junior college teaching, substitute teaching (12 years), school psychology and environmental science. I am also certified to teach reading through a certificate earned at Penn State. I am a certified teacher with current updates through Act 48 credits. I also tutor members of my family, including a niece preparing for the CNA exam. I am a devoted mother and grandmother who raised 3 doctors and am working educationally with my 3 young grandchildren. I have a love for children and animals (I volunteer at the local animal shelter), and I am convinced that education is paramount in the lives of children.

Update: As of 2014 I have taken three courses: "An Introduction To Teaching ESL/EFL, Response to Intervention: Strategies That Work, and Reading Apprenticeship".
Currently I am tutoring online and in person. My students are preparing for the SATs And the ACT Test. They made significant progress. Reading at all age levels is available. I continue to study in these subject areas to keep myself current.

Currently (2016), I continue to teach environmental science and tutor through Wyzant. I am working on an online course entitled, "Effective Strategies Supporting Language Arts Instruction". This involves teaching to the Core with the newest educational strategies available.
Presently 2020 I am working with a seven year old boy in reading instruction in person. I also have an on-line student who is in regarding my subject matter. I have worked for Wyzant several years.

I have a certificate for teaching reading from Penn State, and I have been tutoring in reading and other subjects for many years. In addition, I take reading courses at both Marywood University in Scranton, Pa., and courses at our local Intermediate Unit. Presently, I am taking an on-line course entitled: "Response to Intervention, Reading Strategies That Work". In Lesson 4 of the course we are learning about phonics instruction. One of the interventions is a phonics gamed called "Making Words". It uses a set of tiles to help student identify and form short words. They use these words to build on to form even longer words. The game includes using six basic spelling patterns: closed words, open words, silent e words, vowel team words, r controlled words and consonant le words. You start by using a small word as "it" and then build on the word as "sit", and "bit", and then add an "e" and you have "bite" You lead the student to build and spell larger and larger words. This is just one of the interventions I am learning regarding phonics.

Study Skills

I have been an educator and tutor for over 20 years. I have helped students in their study skills for an equal amount of time. Currently, I am helping my niece to pass her CNA exam. I have helped her pass the prerequisite CNA course (6 weeks duration) by developing her study skills. Some of the techniques I used were previewing the material to be learned, underlining and highlighting important aspects of the subject matter, making notes and flash cards, and rereading and reviewing the material periodically. She passed the course and is now ready to sit for the CNA license. Having these experiences, as mentioned above, I feel qualified to help students develop good study habits.

A great educator!

It rarely happens that you find that type of people nowadays! Most of the teachers I worked with cared only about the money! It’s business for them! She really cares about her students and sincerely support them to achieve the highest scores! My big son did an excellent job at the standardized tests, and he admit it that it’s thanks to Ms. Charlotte. Now, both of my sons work with her. The deepest respect and love to such a wonderful teacher and educator! We love you Ms. Charlotte! May God bless you and your family now and forever!

Outstanding!

The BEST Teacher I’ve come across in a long time. Science has NEVER been so exciting--I’m thrilled we’ve found her. Her vast knowledge, enthusiasm and approach are just amazing to experience--not letting her go for a long time.

Very easy to talk to and helped me a lot!

Charlotte helped me find different ways to help me study that I hadn't learned in the past. I am taking my SAT on Saturday and I really feel like I will increase my score. I would recommend Charlotte to someone that needs help with their SAT. She was very kind and knowledgeable.
