Hi, I'm Alex! I've been a professional journalist for 15 years after graduating with a journalism degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have tutoring experience at the high school, middle school, and elementary school levels. I'm drawn to tutoring because I miss working with students. I used to have more opportunities to interact and mentor students, but have not done so in some time because I became a father to twin boys three years ago! I've turned to Wyzant as a way to dip my toe back into this area.
In my job as a senior editor at a massive global media outlet, I coach professional sports reporters daily, working to improve some of the world's most talented writers. I'm an expert in the English language and can help you sharpen your writing, vocabulary, or speaking skills. I'd also be happy to help with journalism/media/communications work of any kind — even if it's how to become a better Wordle player! If it involves words, I'm your guy.
I like to keep my teaching style light and conversational while practicing with focus and intent. Learning should be fun! I deeply embrace the idea of being a lifelong learner and would love to share that mindset with you. I prefer to tutor online, but if you're local to the Pittsburgh, Pa., area, I would be happy to meet up in person at the library or another location of your choosing.
I ask that if you need to reschedule or cancel, you do so at least 24 hours in advance.
Thank you for your interest — I hope to connect soon!
