Math stressing you out? I am a great fit for a 7-12th grade student who struggles, but is willing to communicate and practice. Online tutoring is much easier for both of us as most students may not need an entire hour some weeks. I ask that you allow recording ( you can turn off your camera) so that you have a recording of the lesson available for 30 days in case your student needs a refresher or you as the parent want to listen in to hear your student's interaction. I ask that you allow recording ( you can turn off your camera) so that you have a recording of the lesson available for 30 days in case your student needs a refresher or you as the parent want to listen in to hear your student's interaction. Online tutoring sessions can be as short as 15 min (or any 5 min increment beyond) .
I am a PA certified 7-12th math teacher. After 10 years of teaching 9-12th, I left the classroom to homeschool. I enjoy tutoring: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry and specialize in preparing students for the math portion of: state exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT and ASVAB tests. The success of tutoring depends on the effort of the student.
I am dedicated to helping your student gain a solid foundation. Today's rate will never increase for your family. If I do not earn a 5 out of 5 stars, let me know within 2 days so there is no charge. Please message me specifically what day and time (with time zone) that you want and if available, I will schedule the lesson, and you will be notified. When I am asked to list all my available times it is time consuming and changes often before I get a reply. At our lesson time, go onto your Wyzant account on a computer (not iPad or cell phone) and choose "join the online session" with Tina S. Let's make a plan for success!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I enjoy helping students gain a solid foundation in algebra. You will get the most out of tutoring if you show me what you have tried so that I can see where the confusion is.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I enjoy helping students gain a solid foundation in Algebra. You will get the most out of tutoring if you show me what you have tried so that I can see where the confusion is. Also the only way to get strong in Algebra is if you ask me for more problems to try that are like the ones that you previously had trouble with.
Geometry,

Geometry

I am interested in helping students who are taking notes, trying their homework and care about learning. Advanced Geometry was the course in college that I really excelled in since I am a visual learner. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy the visual problems that involve algebra. Proofs are the other aspect of Geometry. They are also important, so I will help your student think logically so that they understand the order in which they need to order their proof statements.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have been teaching Pre-Algebra since 2000. Pre-Algebra is an important stepping stone to lay a solid foundation for the rest of your students mathematics. I know what is involved in Alg1, 2 and beyond so I teach Pre-Algebra with the future in mind so that they can make the future connections. Students need repetition so encourage your student to do as many different typed of problems for the same skill so that they can experience all the aspects of that skill. I would visit websites that have interactive games to reinforce skills. Upon our first contact I will give you the names of websites I recommend.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I love how excited parents and students are when their scores improve after tutoring. I taught a 9 week SAT math elective course in high school and have done much private tutoring with much success. The March 2016 New SAT is very different from previous tests. My advice is to only use the NEW official Collegeboard practice book with four tests. I believe one on one tutoring far exceeds the big expensive SAT classes. With your student's effort and my guidance, he or she will improve their score as well as help their math foundation for current and future math classes.

I love how excited parents & students are when their scores improve after tutoring. This math test is a skill driven test whereas the SAT test is more problem solving. The ACT includes a science section. My advise is to only use the official ACT practice book. The other practice books cannot plagiarize the test and do not read like the test. Also, to go to the official ACT website listed as actstudent asap and have your student go to the test prep section and try and complete the 5 modules for the math section. Contact me and I can give you any other information that I have gathered on this new test. I believe one on one tutoring far exceeds the big expensive ACT classes. Please note that I only am able to help with the Math portion of the ASVAB. My advice is to do as many math practice questions as you can before we meet. That way, I can see clearly from our first meeting how much work we need to do. Kahn academy has some good free tutorials that will explain some of the math skills. Also I like the website purple math to help explain some skills. I am honored to help you on your journey to serve our country.

Helpful, flexible, knowledgeable tutor

My son really enjoyed working with Tina to prepare for the math section of the SAT. He said she was "very helpful, very flexible, knowledgeable about the testing environment, congenial, and fast to respond." I would echo all of that and add that she went out of her way to make him feel comfortable and to advise him about strategies and additional resources. I would recommend her to anyone.

Great teacher. Very patient.

First experience was very good. She was very patient and accommodating. Tutoring was for algebra and she made it easier for me to grasp concepts.

Angela, 1 lesson with Tina

Great teacher, clearly explaining steps

Tina S. continues the be a great support to my 10th grader in Algebra 2. The easy of leaning makes even just a 30 minute session to review homework, share quick tips, etc a great confidence builder and set up for success the rest of the week.

The best tutor ever!

My son has been working with Tina for a couple of months and she is the best! She is very knowledgeable in her subject but she seriously goes above and beyond. It’s been a very tough year and she is still able to get through to my son and help him. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else for the job!

Thankful

I am beyond thankful for Tina helping my son with Algebra 2. He has been struggling this year with algebra and does not do well with his teacher. Tina has been a God send! She is very knowledgeable, patient, thorough, and perfect to work with my son. It’s a huge bonus that she’ll check his homework without even charging for it. I highly recommend Tina!

Knowledgeable and helpful!

My daughter was unsure about using a tutor but Tina's friendly and patient personality put her at ease. She gave clear explanations and helpful hints with her homework.
