Hello, my name is Leo, and I am excited to potentially become your History tutor! I am a second-year student at Gettysburg College, majoring in History and minoring in Civil War Era Studies. I tutor in mainly American History, and I specialize in the 19th Century. I am proficient in the the early 1800's and the beginning of our Nation, the Antebellum decades, The American Civil War, and the post-war Reconstruction era. I am also a reading/writing tutor. In my high school years, I received an A+ in AP US History, and I can help anyone currently taking APUSH. I can teach students how to use MLA format, how to write a thorough persuasive or argumentative essay, and how to analyze historical texts/images. I am available to meet online with elementary, middle school, and high school students!

At Gettysburg College, I have taken rigorous American History Courses that have fine tuned my expertise in the 19th century. I am especially adept at teaching the topics of the American Civil War to struggling or highly interested students. I am an experienced tour guide and orator, as I a work part-time at a museum where I give visitors an overview of the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Writing a convincing or engaging essay can be a tough challenge for many students, and as a college student, I am constantly crafting my own arguments into my writings. I enjoy guiding students through the process of creating literary works to be proud of! I am skilled at providing valuable and constructive feedback, and I am patient and understanding.

Early American History is an extremely complex matter to tackle, from the time of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin to Industrial Revolution of the 1890's. History is ever evolving, and it is of the utmost importance for young students to fully embrace our Nations past and learn from its mistakes. With my patient approach, I am able to help students not only master the 19th Century but also develop a genuine understanding and appreciation for American History.

American History

As a History major at a prestigious college, the bulk of my course work deals with utilizing primary sources from certain historical periods as well as contemporary sources to enforce my arguments. American History encompasses not just United States history, but the story of the nation before 1776: the time of the Native Americans, early French, English, and Spanish Colonization, and many other themes that contributed to the formation. These are all fields I have become especially adept in over my first few years of higher education.

I am a living historian and Civil War reenactor, as well as a current History Major and Civil War Era Studies Minor at Gettysburg College. I have vast experience presenting the day-to-day life of a soldier of the Union Army to dozens of visitors, and I also currently hold a position at a Civil War museum (Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center, Gettysburg, PA) where I give interactive/interpretive tours. My expertise is focused on the antebellum period of the early to mid 1800's to the post war reconstruction/industrial revolution decades of the late 19th century.
