My teaching experience is in Social Studies, specifically US History and Government, and I think that the classes I teach are some of the most important courses students will take during their high school careers. History education has been downplayed in favor of other subjects, but through studying history we work on our critical thinking and writing skills in a way that we do not in other courses. It is hard to explain the methods and strategies that I use when working with students because it is all so personalized. Students are different, be it individually or as a class, and it is my job to be responsive to those individual needs to ensure that my students can be successful. I use a variety of methods and resources to hit on different learning styles and pride myself on being able to make connections between the material and things that students understand and experience in their own lives.
