West Chester University (Physics Education)
I have been tutoring both high school and college students in physics for three years. My tutoring experience began as the President of the local chapter of the Society of Physics Students. In this position, my fellow students and I offered our physics knowledge to the West Chester University students enrolled in the conceptual, algebra based, and calculus based physics classes. Since then, I have been offering my services to local high school and college students whom need some help reaching their potential in physics.
As a graduate of West Chester Universities Secondary Physics Education program, I use my knowledge of research based teaching practices to help students master the physics content. Additionally, I understand that physics is not easy as it is non-intuitive, and therefore requires the development of new ways of thinking. Understanding this, I attempt to help each student to embrace this aspect of physics, while approaching each student with patience and compassion. Furthermore, I make an effort to identify what each student needs as individuals in order to become successful in physics. Jacob taught me Physics. I had to take a four week course in Physics with Calculus at Villanova University. I was in the wrong class for the first two weeks so I only had 2 weeks to complete the class. Jacob gave me so much time in the two weeks and was a great teacher. With his help, I was able to finish the class. I could not have done it without his patience and his time and his tutoring skills. Thank you Jacob.
Jake is an excellent teacher. Concepts are important to him, which makes the material understandable. Jake's physics skills are also excellent. He is able to explain concepts accurately and concisely. Catching up has been easy with Jake.
We went over a bunch of practice exam problems and homework problems that I didn't understand. He understood that I needed help understanding everything about the problem instead of just knowing how to do the math.
Jacob was an awesome tutor! He helped my daughter with her Physics 130 class at West Chester University and provide the help we were looking for. Jacob is very patient and knows the material inside and out AND can explain it very well. He was able to make the physics concepts come to life and be understood fully by my daughter. We couldn't be happier with the result.
I have only had 2 tutoring sessions with Jake and I know that he is a keeper! He is reliable and knows exactly how to explain things so that I understand. He goes over material relevant to my class and is extremely patient and polite. He is fun to work with and really knows what he is talking about.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Being a Physicist, I have a solid foundation in physical science. Physical science is a combination of physics, chemistry and earth/space science. Throughout my education, I have had to study all three subjects. Furthermore, physics is the underlying science behind chemistry and earth/space science.
I have received my teacher certification in Pennsylvania in Physics for grades 7-12 through West Chester University. I have helped many high school and college students over the last three years to master physics by becoming better at math, becoming more confident in understanding the concepts, and by improving analytic skills, problem solving skills, and study skills.
