Hi! My name is Patty or Mrs. Z and this is my twenty-fifth year as an elementary school teacher. I have tutored students for several years. I really enjoy tutoring because of the connections I make with my students while working on their individualized goals. I am certified as a Reading Specialist (PK-12) and English as a Second Language Program Specialist (PK-12). My background also includes being an Early Childhood (N-3) and Special Education (K-12) teacher. I have my masters degree in Educational Psychology. I am also certified in the Orton Gillingham (OG) multi-sensory approach to reading which has benefits for all children, including those who have dyslexia.

I have worked with students of many ages, including students from preschool to adults. I currently have a classroom of first graders. My latest certification, English as a Second Language, arose from my love of my international students. I wanted to learn more about how to effectively teach English Language Learners. In addition, my family has hosted international students in our home so I personally know the challenges that English learners face. I really enjoyed learning from them.

My sessions will be filled with a mutual respect of my students & their native language and culture. It will have plenty of differentiated activities to help the students gain concepts that may have been nonexistent. Clear statements will be utilized. The students will be in a safe and supportive environment that incorporates a variety of strategies and a consistent routine. The students will have learning tools in order to problem solve efficiently and effectively. Communication with parents will be essential. I encourage the parents to be actively involved in their child’s learning.

I would appreciate to meet with you and your parents free of charge about my tutoring services. I look forward to meeting and working with you! Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or schedule a meeting.

Patient, skillful, engaging and empowering tutor!!!

Patty is very experienced in ELA and phonics. She keeps my son very engaged throughout the full hour…which is a feat for us! She is patient and very responsive. My son has dyslexia and we have struggled to find a tutor who can teach him without him feeling being aggravated and getting impatient. Patty spent time in the beginning to understand his character and abilities and has been able to customize his learning. He walks away from tutoring feeling proud, secure and confident in his abilities. I obviously can’t say enough about how great she is! 😊

First Impression

Patty was very nice and displayed subject matter expertise in our first meet. She was very clear about the approach she was going to take with my daughter. This initial assessment went well.

Mrs. Patty is awesome!! My son loves her. He often says that she is the highlight of his day. If a teacher makes his day, it is a win, win situation for me. Thank goodness!!! I can see his progress in just a little over a month. We started from scratch, things he may have learned or haven’t learned with an Orton Gillingham approach. The techniques and decoding of words have made such a difference in his writing and reading. I can’t thank her enough for her caring.

Knowledgeable and patient

I wanted to enhance my child’s reading & comprehension abilities. With Patty that is what she’s able to do and more. My daughter didn’t have much confidence when it came to reading & sight words, but Patty introduced new and fun ways for her to enjoy learning from sand activities to short stories. I’ve seen growth in my daughters abilities while having someone like Patty who has been kind and patient with her growth. I enjoy seeing my child enjoy her sessions and take the information she’s learned and apply it outside of her sessions and try to teach it to her younger brother as well. Patty is very appreciated!
