Hi! My name is Elaine. I have 22 years of experience teaching Reading and Writing in the classroom. In the evenings and during the summers, I tutor students online that need my help in these subject areas. Using an approach that includes a combination of Phonics, Comprehension, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Writing has proven to be most effective in helping students make maximum growth in Reading. I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1991. I gained my Master's degree in Reading along with a Reading Specialist Certificate in 2013. The knowledge obtained from these credentials helps me to diagnose and remediate any Reading difficulty a student is having. I am enthusiastic about teaching and student learning and growth. I use lesson plans that keep the student's attention and provide motivation to continue to learn and grow.

My experience with ELA instruction in the classroom helps me to be an effective tutor. I am able to find a student's specific reading level and teach the necessary skills to advance them to the next level quickly. My Master's in Reading has taught me to diagnose reading difficulties and provide appropriate interventions.

Working closely with the students to achieve their goals is what is the most satisfying part of tutoring. Tutors have the ability to impact the students because of the one-on-one nature of the instruction. I am able to teach and present new content to the student as well as help the student with any school work that is challenging them. I am available to work with the student as often as needed.
