I'm passionate about education, and I've spent over fifteen years delivering effective instruction in a variety of settings.

I began my teaching career with a middle school classroom, teaching history and writing, but I also launched a poetry club, a chess club, and coached two sports teams. While I was in law school, I served as a teaching assistant and research assistant for multiple professors, and I also volunteered with a literacy program for elementary-school students. In the years since, I have continued to operate as an independent tutor, with a focus on reading, writing, and history, and a teaching artist, providing educational performances and workshops.

As a teaching artist, I mix history and politics with rhythm and diction to create a spoken word mix I call "pulp non-fiction." I've been able to take this art on tour, performing in bookstores, bars, and universities; I bring that same energy, and enthusiasm, to working with students in all settings. I understand that stress from testing, or from the college application process, can be a major factor in performance - so I seek to make learning enjoyable, and to equip my students with strategies to help manage their stress!

I've designed specific, targeted strategies to help students with the SAT, ACT, and AP exams, and consistently seen both improved scores, and improved confidence. My AP tutoring experience includes Human Geography, World History, US History, European History, and US Government and Politics, as well as English Language and Composition.
I've also worked with college students on a variety of history and politics courses.

If you are looking to ace your AP exams, boost your SAT scores, or feel confident in your college coursework, please don't hesitate to schedule a session to see how I can help you reach your goals!

American History

American History

With over a decade of helping students prepare for AP exams, I've developed a simple, but effective framework for tackling FRQs; it demystifies the scoring process, allowing students to confidently write concise answers that will gain them full points. I've also developed thousands of maps to help students see historical change over time, and a graphic organizer to make learning about technological change fun and entertaining. Finally, as an independent researcher and performer, I've been invited to speak at conferences and universities on a number of historical topics.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I have been involved in slam poetry for fifteen years, during which time I have been a representative to the National Poetry Slam, part of multiple regionally touring teams, and was named the 2018 All-Arizona Poetry Slam Champion. I have also written "pulp non-fiction" stories -- short historical narratives that focus on specific commodities, such as sugar, or bananas -- and been able to present these stories in dozens of venues across the western United States, including the Keynote Speech at the 2018 Students for Sensible Drug Policy conference in Austin, Texas.
